Though methods are constantly evolving, everyone who works at the Hill House shares in a set of foundational ideas—the keys to the Hill House’s success every day since its founding.
Respect all.
There is no “us” and “them.” All of us share in the human experience. Everyone has something important to offer. Anyone can become our partner to create positive change, either within themselves or for others.
Do it right.
Our work is serious business that affects lives. Working thoughtfully and efficiently means helping more people. Improve methods day by day. There’s no time for perfection today, but each day is a chance to move in that direction.
Innovate.
Our target is always moving. Each day brings a new challenge. Seek new solutions, large and small, from near and far. Try before you buy. Invest in the best and insist on a return.
Watch the money.
Funding is the lifeblood of our work. Treat it as a precious resource that we hold in trust for the people we serve. Use it wisely on their behalf.
Everyone is our job.
In our community, each person’s success depends on another’s. To help anyone, we must help everyone. Our success is measured by the community’s success.
Meet the need.
To help people get where they’re going, we start where they are. What do they need, today, to move forward? Find a way to provide it, or find a partner who can.
Reach out.
To raise a child it takes a village. To raise up a village it takes many partners. Our reach grows when we collaborate with partners in our community, and exchange ideas with partners everywhere. We share our success with them.
Serve African-Americans.
Serve everyone in need. Take on the responsibility of serving African-Americans in our community, city, and region. Share ideas to help address African-Americans’ needs everywhere.
With community partner Addison Behavioral Care, Inc., the Hill House celebrates African-American heritage through its annual African-American history tournament, where teams of young people compete to answer questions about black history and culture.
